IRONGRID is a Progressive Web App (PWA). That's a technical term for a website that behaves like a native app — it can be installed to your home screen, runs full-screen, and can send push notifications. You don't go through the App Store or Google Play to install it. You install it directly from your browser in about 30 seconds.
Why install it instead of just using the browser?
- Home screen icon — launch IRONGRID the same way you'd open any other app
- Full-screen experience — no browser address bar taking up space
- Push notifications — get notified when you're assigned a job, when a status changes, or when someone mentions you in an update (you have to opt in — see below)
- Faster access — no need to open a browser and navigate to the site each time
Installing on iPhone or iPad (iOS)
On iOS, installation only works through Safari. If you're using Chrome or another browser on your iPhone, switch to Safari first.
- 1Open Safari and go to app.irongridapp.com
- 2Log in to your account if you aren't already
- 3Tap the '...' button in the bottom-right corner of Safari to reveal the full toolbar
- 4Tap the Share button (the box with an arrow pointing up)
- 5Scroll down in the share sheet and tap Add to Home Screen
- 6Give it a name (or leave it as IRONGRID) and tap Add
- 7The IRONGRID icon now appears on your home screen — tap it to open the app full-screen
The Share button in Safari looks like a small box with an upward arrow. On iPad, it's visible at the top of the screen without needing to tap '...' first.
Installing on Android
On Android, installation works best through Chrome. The exact wording may vary slightly depending on your device manufacturer.
- 1Open Chrome and go to app.irongridapp.com
- 2Log in to your account if you aren't already
- 3Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of Chrome
- 4Tap Add to Home screen (some devices show this as Install app)
- 5Tap Add or Install to confirm
- 6The IRONGRID icon now appears on your home screen — tap it to open the app full-screen
On some Android devices, Chrome will show a banner at the bottom of the screen automatically prompting you to install. You can tap that instead of going through the menu.
Enabling push notifications
The first time you open IRONGRID from your home screen icon, the app will automatically prompt you to allow push notifications. Tap Allow when that prompt appears and you're done — no additional setup needed.
If you dismissed the prompt or want to enable notifications later, you can do it from within the app:
- 1Open IRONGRID from your home screen icon
- 2Go to your profile or notification settings
- 3Find the Push Notifications option and tap Enable
- 4Your device will show a permission prompt — tap Allow
Push notifications only work when IRONGRID is installed to your home screen and opened from there — not when accessed through a browser tab. If you never received the initial prompt, make sure you opened the app from the home screen icon and not from Safari.
What you'll be notified about
- A work order has been assigned to you
- A work order status has changed on a job you're assigned to
- Someone mentioned you in a work order update
- A client-shared update has been posted on a job you're following
You can turn notifications off at any time from your device's notification settings, or from within IRONGRID under your profile settings.
