Time tracking in IRONGRID is built around one principle: hours should be logged against the specific job they belong to, as accurately as possible.
How it works
Each assigned team member logs their hours directly on the work order. Open the job, enter the number of hours worked in the Hours Worked field, optionally add a note, and tap Post Update. The entry is recorded immediately and the work order's total labor hours update automatically.
Where the hours go
- Each entry is attached to the specific work order it was logged on
- Hours appear in the work order's activity log in real time
- Total labor hours for the job update automatically as entries are added
- Your dashboard shows weekly and monthly labor summaries across all active jobs
Logging contractor hours
External contractor hours are tracked separately from your team's hours. Admins and managers can log them from the Labor Hours tab inside the Edit Work Order modal — tap 'Add an External Contractor' and enter the contractor's name, hours, and date. These are kept distinct from internal labor so your cost calculations can treat them differently.
How time connects to job cost
Total labor hours logged on a work order feed directly into your cost calculations. Admins can configure how hours translate to labor cost through the Cost Summary tab and the Admin Portal. The more accurately hours are logged, the more reliable your job costing becomes.
Accurate time tracking is the most reliable way to know whether a job is actually profitable. Every hour logged against the wrong job — or not logged at all — is margin you can't account for.
